TEHRAN (IQNA) – The status of Birr (extended virtue and goodness) is a magnificent crown that is more beautiful than the crowns of kings.

Status of virtue

What a blessing it would be when a king or official puts aside the sign of power and instead puts on the crown of goodness and mercy.

God says in Verse 92 of Surah Al Imran: “You can never have extended virtue and righteousness unless you spend part of what you dearly love for the cause of God. God knows very well whatever you spend for His cause.”

"Birr" in this verse, which means goodness and virtue, is the opposite of evil. It is a sublime status that one cannot reach by merely doing good deeds. Reaching that status requires serving other people, fulfilling their wishes and prioritizing them to oneself.

If one gifts to others what he loves himself, he will find the sign of goodness and virtue.

There is a story that goes like this: An idolater in India would frequently go to the seaside and feed the fish and birds there. They told him what he was doing was pointless because he was an idolater and God would not accept his deeds. He asked: “Does God see what I do or not?” They said yes, He does. The man said that was enough for him.

The above-mentioned verse does not say God accepts, but says God knows very well whatever you spend for His cause.

Having the hope that God sees and knows what one does is good enough to encourage him to do good.

And the status of Birr is a magnificent crown that is more beautiful than the crowns of kings.
